Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian arrived in the Qatari capital, Doha, on Monday, revealing the objectives of this visit. In a press statement upon his arrival in Doha, Abdollahian explained the goals of his visit to Qatar, noting that he would discuss bilateral, regional, and international issues with Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and then with Qatari Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.
Abdollahian indicated that "there are opportunities in Qatar, including the organization of the World Cup, where discussions have taken place in the past, and the possibility of benefiting from Iran's capabilities in technical and engineering services in this context." He added, "During the visit, we will discuss the development of bilateral cooperation, especially commercial ties, as well as other regional and international developments."
Regarding his visit to Muscat, the Iranian Foreign Minister remarked, "Bilateral political cooperation and consultation on some common issues were among our discussions, while in the economic field, we talked about resuming commercial vessel movements between the two countries, due to the control over the coronavirus. The Omani side promised to follow up on this issue so that we can soon see the resumption of ship movements between the two countries for the exchange of goods."
He continued, "We also discussed joint investments in some projects within Iran in various fields, including investment in the Chabahar port (southeast) of the Islamic Republic of Iran, as well as addressing the resumption of flights by Iran Air and Oman Air for the citizens of both countries engaged in commercial matters and popular activities, where it was agreed to take the necessary measures for this."
Abdollahian added, "While in Oman, we also discussed regional issues related to developments in Yemen, Afghanistan, and Palestine. We also had extensive discussions at the international level concerning the Vienna negotiations aimed at lifting sanctions," noting that "the Omanis played a role in the past to make the negotiations fruitful within the framework of the nuclear agreement, as well as in the relationship with some Western parties."
He elaborated, "The Omanis still carry sincere intentions to achieve a good and lasting outcome from these negotiations and are making diplomatic efforts to support the negotiating table to reach a good agreement." Abdollahian had visited the Sultanate of Oman on Monday and held talks with senior officials there regarding bilateral relations and exchanged views on important regional and international issues.
