"An Orphan and Proud": Video of "Reem" Evokes Sympathy from Saudis

"I am an orphan, proud of my reality, and I take pride in belonging to an orphanage." With these words, content creator Reem expressed herself, leading to the widespread circulation of her video on social media, garnering appreciation and sympathy from many Saudis who praised her courage. Meanwhile, a few Twitter users criticized her statements, urging her "not to publicize her situation."

The story began when a girl from an orphanage, named Reem, responded to a follower who commented on her post with "If you are tested, conceal it," criticizing her for revealing that she is an orphan. In a response video on TikTok, she stated that being an orphan is neither a calamity nor a disgrace, emphasizing that she will not live with the sins of others.

"This is not something that dishonors you."

In an interview with "Sabah Al-Arabiya" on Wednesday, Reem stressed that the only thing that hinders a person is their own mind, so they should be proud of themselves regardless of their origin. She continued, "Being an orphan or a child with special needs does not dishonor you; you can achieve what you want. You are in Saudi Arabia, a country that respects and protects you."

When asked about society's perception of her, the young woman said, "I have not faced any negative perceptions from society or those around me, but I do encounter bullying on social media from behind smartphone screens."

Reem reiterated her pride in being from an orphanage, stating, "I have two brothers in the orphanage studying medicine and engineering," confirming that they have a message and are successful in their lives.

In the circulating video, Reem expressed her pride and belonging to the orphanage, saying, "I am an orphan from an orphanage, and I am very proud to be an orphan from an orphanage and that I belong to this great group, the pure group with white hearts."
