Ronaldo missed the match due to the loss of his child with partner Georgina Rodriguez, a piece of news that was announced 24 hours before the game.
During the match, specifically at the seventh minute in reference to Cristiano Ronaldo's shirt number, Liverpool fans applauded to support the player and chanted the famous anthem "You'll Never Walk Alone" while clapping to express their support for the star in his tragedy.
Ilma Aveiro, Ronaldo's sister, wrote on her official Instagram account: "Thank you to Liverpool fans, we will never forget what you did." Meanwhile, his other sister, Katia, commented "Beyond football" alongside a video showing Liverpool fans singing "You'll Never Walk Alone" for Ronaldo.
Liverpool won the match against Manchester United with a score of 4-0 at Anfield stadium.
