US President Donald Trump has suggested renaming the strategic Strait of Hormuz to "Trump Strait" after declaring that the waterway is now under US control amid escalating tensions with Iran.
In a post, Trump questioned: "Now that it is under US control, should we rename the Strait of Hormuz to Trump Strait?"
He further claimed that if the strait were to bear his name, it would be "hotter than ever," ending his post with: "Thank you for considering this matter."
Trump's proposal comes at a time when the Strait of Hormuz holds a pivotal role in the increasing confrontation with Iran, given its strategic importance as a key route for international trade and energy supply.
Previously, Trump announced that the US now controls the strait, coinciding with ongoing US military operations against Iran, with Washington asserting that its actions aim to ensure freedom of navigation in the strategic waterway.
