Olympique Lyon football team captain Leo Dubois will arrive in Beirut at 11:30 AM on Thursday, June 2, to participate in "Olympic Day," organized by the French Embassy in Lebanon in collaboration with Sports Academy School, under the supervision of the Lebanese Olympic Committee, on Saturday, June 4, at the sports facilities of Antonine University (Bikfaya-Hadath).
He will be welcomed at Rafic Hariri International Airport by George Asaf, director of Sports Academy School, and his assistant, Ambassador of "Olympic Week" Margolin Dubord. Then, Asaf, Dubord, and the sports guest will head to the headquarters of the Lebanese Football Federation to meet with the federation’s officials, followed by a visit to the Sports Academy School and the “Performance First” club. On Friday, they will visit several Lebanese regions, concluding their Lebanese itinerary with participation in "Olympic Day" on Saturday.
Asaf stated, “This sports activity comes under the slogan ‘Land of Games’ through competitions involving between 300 and 400 male and female athletes from 12 schools across various sports (basketball, football, athletics, archery, rowing, and para-table tennis, among others) aimed at selecting 10 young individuals (currently aged 16) from 30 volunteers who will oversee and manage this 'Olympic Day'. These ten individuals will be trained over two years to assist in organizing the Summer Olympic Games to be held in the French capital, Paris, in 2024.”
He continued, “The meetings will be led by volunteer students specialized from Antonine University and Sports Academy School, noting that participation in the long sports day is free of charge, a step taken by the organizers to encourage participation and introduce students to Olympic and Paralympic values.”
He mentioned that the official opening of "Olympic Day" will take place at 9 AM on Saturday in the presence of official and sports figures, with competitions starting at 9:45 AM and continuing until 5 PM, followed by the distribution of trophies and awards. Asaf thanked everyone who contributed and will contribute to the success of "Olympic Day."
Asaf revealed five ambassadors for “Olympic Day,” including Lebanese champion athletes Ray Bassil (Olympic shooter), Arz Zahreddine (Paralympic runner), Nour Hdid (Olympic runner), Manon Ouis (Olympic skier), and the captain of Olympique Lyon football team, Leo Dubois, who has Lebanese roots.
