World leaders are gathering for the 27th Conference of the Parties on climate in Egypt, facing significant pressure to enhance their climate commitments in light of rising temperatures and to provide financial support to poorer countries that are most affected by climate change. About 110 heads of state and government will address delegates meeting in Sharm El Sheikh during Monday and Tuesday as part of COP-27. These addresses come against the backdrop of multiple interconnected crises shaking the world, including the Russian invasion of Ukraine, rampant inflation, the risk of recession, an energy crisis with renewed support for fossil fuel sources, and a food crisis, as the world population is set to exceed eight billion.
