Major companies in Japan have agreed during their annual labor negotiations to a wage increase of 3.8% for the upcoming fiscal year, according to the Japanese Trade Union Confederation (Rengo) on Friday. A preliminary survey involving 805 unions affiliated with Rengo revealed an average increase of $89 per month. Rengo officials confirmed in a press conference regarding the spring wage talks that changes in the survey methodology make it challenging to compare historical data before 2013, but this marks the first time since 1994 that the average wage increase exceeds 3%.
