The North Korean Foreign Ministry issued a stern warning against Japan due to its pursuit of what is termed "counter-strike capability" as outlined in its new security policy documents. A spokesperson for the ministry stated in a release by the Korean Central News Agency that Japan poses a serious security threat to the Korean Peninsula and East Asia by adopting a new policy that entails the capacity to launch preemptive strikes against other countries. The unnamed spokesperson emphasized that Japan's claimed counter-strike capability is not about a sovereign state's legitimate right to self-defense but rather the ability to conduct preemptive attacks on another country's territory. He noted that the security conditions in East Asia are fundamentally changing because of Japan's move, warning that Japan will realize it has made a very wrong and dangerous choice due to this step.
