The United States Central Command announced that American forces, in cooperation with the Saudi Armed Forces, conducted precise airstrikes aimed at sites claimed to belong to 'Iran-aligned terrorists' in eastern Iraq. These strikes were described as a response to a series of drone attacks targeting U.S. forces and energy infrastructure in Saudi Arabia.
In the statement, CENTCOM noted that the strikes, conducted on July 28, targeted logistical locations and weapon depots used by Iran-aligned elements, allegedly directed by Iran's Revolutionary Guards to attack U.S. forces and Saudi energy infrastructure.
The statement detailed that both U.S. and Saudi fighter jets participated in the operation, describing it as a 'strong response' to more than 30 drone attacks reportedly executed by the Iranian Revolutionary Guards over the past 72 hours.
U.S. Central Command affirmed that the attacks targeting American forces had 'failed to achieve their aims,' explaining that U.S. forces successfully thwarted them.
According to the statement, there were over 600 attempted attacks from February to April 2026 targeting American personnel and facilities, attributed by Washington to 'Iran-aligned terrorist militias' in Iraq.
CENTCOM underscored the need for the Iranian Revolutionary Guards and their allied groups to halt these attacks, warning that continued aggression could lead to 'further U.S. military responses.'
In Saudi Arabia, Brigadier General Turki al-Maliki, the official spokesperson for the Saudi Ministry of Defense, confirmed that the Saudi Armed Forces, in coordination with U.S. Central Command, executed 'precise and targeted strikes' against militia-related sites in Iraq linked to attacks on the Kingdom's oil facilities.
Al-Maliki emphasized that the Kingdom 'does not seek escalation but will respond to any aggression it faces.'
