Title: Over 300 Omicron Variants?

The World Health Organization (WHO) confirmed that variants of the coronavirus still represent a public health emergency and raise international concern. The organization tweeted that the Emergency Committee regarding COVID-19 met last week to discuss the global situation, noting that it is monitoring over 300 variants of the Omicron virus. It also clarified that the committee emphasized the need to enhance surveillance and facilitate access to testing, treatments, and vaccines for those most at risk, as well as for all countries to update their national preparedness and response plans. It stated that "while the global situation has clearly improved since the onset of the pandemic, the virus continues to change, and there are still many risks and uncertainties. This pandemic has surprised us before and could surprise us again." The Director-General of WHO, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, mentioned at the thirteenth meeting of the Emergency Committee on the COVID-19 pandemic on October 13 that the epidemiological situation is better suited for declaring an end to the pandemic as a public health emergency.
