Emergency Grant from Japan to Support Food Security in Lebanon

The Embassy of Japan in Lebanon announced in a statement that "Japan has decided to allocate an emergency grant of 2 million US dollars to Lebanon, through the World Food Programme, in response to the deterioration of food security throughout the country, which has been exacerbated by Russia's aggression against Ukraine."

It noted that "this grant will support the World Food Programme's efforts to assist 300,000 of the most deprived people in Lebanon by providing monthly in-kind food rations to meet their nutritional needs over a period of six months, and to alleviate the impact of the social and economic crisis on their livelihoods." The statement continued, "Through this initiative, Japan reiterates its commitment to continue standing by Lebanon and its people amid the unprecedented challenges the country is facing."
