Former First Lady Michelle Obama has announced her involvement in founding a company to produce and sell healthy foods and beverages for children, which she claims will be less harmful to their health. Obama confirmed that "PLEZi Nutrition aims to market delicious and nutritious foods and drinks for children that contain low sugar and high nutritional value. I believe there’s a way to build a successful company and do it the right way for our kids. We need to find ways to change the food and beverage industry itself."
Obama has promoted healthy habits through the "Let's Move" campaign, which encourages nutritious school meals, and has called on food companies and restaurant chains to commit to reducing sugar and salt. The launch of the company comes at a time when it has been revealed that approximately half of young children in the United States do not eat fruits and vegetables daily, but most consume large amounts of sugary beverages. While pediatricians have long urged the reduction of sugar and sweetened juices, the majority of families do not follow this advice, and some products marketed as healthy contain a lot of sugar or sweeteners.
