German Finance Minister Christian Lindner stated that it is essential to increase the defense budget in the coming years and postponed the submission of the first draft of the budget on Thursday. However, plans for the largest economy in Europe are expected to be announced on Wednesday, which will also outline the financial planning for the country until 2027.
Lindner mentioned that he is open to increasing defense spending, noting that discussions will face challenges as the decade comes to an end, characterized by low interest rates and rising government revenues. He said, "The situation we are facing now for planning the 2024 budget cannot be compared at all to any discussions related to budgets in the past ten years," adding that it is crucial to increase the defense budget in the coming years.
