The English club Liverpool has made progress in negotiations to renew the contract with its international star, Mohamed Salah, enhancing hopes of reaching an agreement to extend his stay beyond the current season. Salah's current contract is set to expire in June, with his future, alongside Dutchman Virgil van Dijk and Englishman Trent Alexander-Arnold, being subjects of debate for many months.
Nevertheless, the British news agency PA News reported increased optimism within the club about finding a solution that would keep the Egyptian national team captain (32 years old) at Anfield in the near future. News reports indicated that Salah informed his national team about his wish to miss Egypt's (the Pharaohs) camp next June, likely to get enough rest for starting a new season with Liverpool.
Despite some public statements suggesting this might be his last season with Liverpool, Salah, who currently tops the Premier League's goal-scoring chart with 27 goals, has always made it clear that his preferred choice is to stay with the Reds.
In parallel, van Dijk, another player eager to stay, admitted progress in the negotiations that had stalled regarding his new contract, and it now appears that the key players in the team are on the verge of extending their contracts.
