After 11 weeks into his third term as Prime Minister of Israel, Netanyahu has yet to be received at the White House, even though most new Israeli presidents have met with the U.S. President since the beginning of their government tenure, according to a review by Reuters of official visits dating back to the late 1970s.
The White House has refrained from confirming whether it will invite Netanyahu for a visit. A spokesperson for the State Department referred Reuters to the Israeli government for information on the Prime Minister's travel plans. The Israeli embassy in Washington declined to comment.
In this context, former Israeli-Palestinian negotiations advisor David Makovsky confirmed that "the message they clearly want to send is: If you follow unacceptable policies, you do not have the right to sit in the Oval Office."
