Pope Francis received a gift from Andy Burnham, the Mayor of Greater Manchester, which was a Manchester United shirt signed by his compatriot Lisandro Martínez during a visit to the Vatican on Thursday. United stated that "the Pope received the No. 6 shirt of the Argentine defender, along with a message: 'For you, with much love, Lisandro.'" This was during a special meeting with a delegation of religious leaders from Manchester. Pope Francis, who also received a Manchester City shirt, was gifted a signed shirt from Lionel Messi by former French Prime Minister Jean Castex in 2021.
