U.S. State Department spokesman Matt Miller announced today, Thursday, that the U.S. special envoy to Iran, Robert Malley, is "on leave," and Abram Paley is acting in his place. Miller told Reuters in an email, "Rob Malley is on leave, and Abram Paley is serving as acting special envoy for Iran and leading the department's work on this matter." Malley was appointed as the special envoy for Iran in January 2021, just days after the Biden administration took office.
