The United States welcomed the announcement tonight regarding the ceasefire between Israel and militants based in Gaza, mediated by the Egyptian government after nearly five days of fighting, according to Karen Jaber Beber, a spokesperson for the White House. The White House noted that "American officials are working with regional partners to implement the decision."
President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi of Egypt and senior Egyptian officials were thanked for their "very important diplomatic efforts," and gratitude was also expressed to Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar.
