The war in Sudan continues to claim more victims, the latest being the esteemed actress Asia Abdul Jabbar, who was killed in a gunfire exchange between warring factions north of Khartoum. Abdul Jabbar, who was eighty years old, was known for her theatrical performances and first gained prominence in 1965 when she starred in the play "Bamsika." The play was showcased at the National Theatre in Omdurman, on the occasion of the first anniversary of the October revolution in Sudan against a military coup regime at the time. She was considered a pioneer in theatre and the first professional female stage actress in the country, later retiring from acting to become a teacher, according to a report by the BBC. Her family stated that she was buried just hours after being shot, on Wednesday morning, in the grounds of a kindergarten where she had recently worked. Transporting her to be buried in the cemetery was a highly perilous endeavor.
