Tragedy in Sana'a: 78 Dead in Stampede Incident

At least 78 people have died, and dozens were injured, including 13 in critical condition, in a stampede in the capital, Sana'a, when hundreds gathered at a school to receive financial aid. A spokesperson for the Interior Ministry of the Houthi government stated that "the stampede occurred during the distribution of financial aid by some merchants in the final days of Ramadan."

The Interior Ministry, in a separate statement, revealed that "the two traders responsible for organizing the aid distribution have been arrested," adding that "investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances of the incident."

Two witnesses involved in rescue efforts told Reuters, "Hundreds rushed into the school to receive the aid amounting to five thousand Yemeni rials, or about nine dollars per person."
