Venezuelan Attorney General Tarek William Saab announced the sentencing of a man named Matías Salazar to prison for abducting and sexually assaulting a woman for 31 years. The man "kept one of his victims captive for over 30 years to sexually assault her." He was sentenced to 17 years and two months in prison on charges of sexual violence, threats, and psychological violence. The case, which caused a strong shock in Venezuela, erupted after a woman known as Muriela León escaped from the apartment where she was held captive in a village near the city of Maracay in northern Venezuela. It was later revealed that she had given birth to a child from him.
