This horse is known for its regular round trips in the suburbs of Paris, where it collects food scraps and organic waste before transporting them to a nearby processing center that turns garbage into "black gold," under the supervision of its trainer, Alexandrine Martin. The waste is then converted into compost by the composting company "Les Alchimistes." The horse has been working twice a week for about 19 years at this French startup that produces compost and currently collects both commercial and household waste in 12 cities, mostly using electric bikes and vehicles. The company is part of a French ambition to create a less wasteful state. Under a 2020 law, local authorities across the country will be required to collect organic waste from homes starting next year, although the logistical work will take time.
