Canadian Defense Minister Anita Anand announced on Wednesday that Canada will deploy approximately 200 soldiers to coordinate evacuation operations from Sudan, as Ottawa stated that around 180 Canadians have been evacuated. She revealed that Canada has deployed two C-130 Hercules aircraft near Sudan to evacuate Canadians as soon as conditions on the ground allow. Anand informed reporters in Ottawa, saying, "There are conditions we are closely monitoring, one of which is the space at the airport, and the other is ensuring that Canadians can safely reach the airport."
Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly also announced earlier on Wednesday that about 180 Canadians have been evacuated from the region with assistance from other countries, adding that the federal government is working to initiate its own operation to evacuate civilians. The Canadian government stated that there are approximately 1,800 Canadians in Sudan, with around 700 having requested help from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Ottawa indicated earlier this week that Canada will implement new immigration measures to support Sudanese nationals currently in Canada temporarily who may not be able to return to their homeland due to the rapidly deteriorating situation in Sudan.
