The Association of English-speaking Journalists in Cameroon reported that "Gunmen shot and killed a journalist late last night, Sunday, in the city of Bamenda, located in the troubled northwestern region of the country, making him the third victim this year among media personnel." Journalist Melanie Nadivro stated that "Journalist Ani Ndi Nso, the head of the western and northwestern regional office of the Advocate weekly newspaper, was inside a bar in the Ntaryicon area of Bamenda when unknown assailants opened fire on him." Nadivro was nearby the attack site. The journalists' association confirmed the reporter's death and called for an investigation into the incident. Earlier this year, a radio broadcaster and a journalist were killed in separate attacks, one in the capital Yaoundé and the other near it, prompting the United Nations to express concern regarding the media climate. The journalist's assassination comes amid a conflict between Cameroonian authorities and some separatist factions in English-speaking regions that has escalated into violence since 2017.
