Social media and some news outlets have circulated images showing Rifaat Assad, the brother of late Syrian President Hafez Assad, alongside Syrian President Bashar Assad and his brother Maher, along with family members. This meeting marks a political event following the significant rift between the current president and his uncle, being the first public encounter between them. According to the circulating information, which has yet to be confirmed by any official source, the photo was taken a few days ago. Rifaat Assad was allowed to return to Syria on October 7, 2021, after spending nearly 36 years in exile in France and Spain, while also facing legal cases in Spain and France.
