Berri Surprises the MPs... But!

MP Abdul Rahman al-Bizri confirmed that the Saida-Jezine MPs bloc has decided to attend the presidential election session today, and discussions among them are ongoing to determine their direction. He revealed that he, along with MPs Osama Saad and Charbel Massad, is considering all possibilities for the upcoming phase. In response to a question from the electronic newspaper "Al-Anbaa," he stated, "It is true that Speaker Nabih Berri surprised the MPs by setting the session date, but he did so within constitutional deadlines because we cannot demand presidential elections without clarifying the general direction of attendance and securing a quorum." Regarding his expectations for the voting results if the elections take place, he noted that the voting outcomes depend on the positions of the blocs, adding, "As the Saida-Jezine MPs, our aim is to rebuild a fair and capable state." He pointed out that several proposals from various parliamentary blocs could crystallize in the hours leading up to the session, and Lebanon would be well and safe if attendance is secured and the president is elected. He emphasized the necessity for a candidate to obtain a two-thirds majority in the first session and then a simple majority of half plus one. If no candidate achieves a two-thirds majority, the session may be postponed; the important thing is to exercise our constitutional right to approach the Parliament.
