US Sanctions Target Iranian Shipping and Petrochemical Companies

According to the website of the US Department of the Treasury, the United States imposed new sanctions today, Thursday, on Iranian shipping and petrochemical companies or those linked to Iran, including two shipping firms based in China. The sanctions also targeted 20 shipping vessels connected to companies in China, Vietnam, and the UAE, as reported by the department’s website. The website did not provide further details about the new sanctions. A spokesperson for the Treasury referred questions to the State Department, which has not yet responded to a request for comment. The United States imposed the sanctions under an executive order issued in 2018 that reinstated measures targeting the Iranian oil, finance, and transportation sectors, according to a report by Reuters.
