Authorities reported today that a man from Tajikistan seized a firearm from a security officer at Chisinau International Airport, killing two security officers and injuring a civilian after he was denied entry into the country. The police added that he was also injured and apprehended, and the incident briefly halted flight operations at the airport. Prime Minister Dorin Recean stated that the shooter seized the gun from a border police officer during his escort following the denial of entry. A witness told Reuters that authorities instructed her and other passengers to evacuate the airport, and she heard four or five gunshots about 30 minutes later. Moldova's President Maia Sandu expressed condolences, stating that one of the deceased was a border security officer while the other was an airport security officer.
