Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam has placed the recent military developments in the south at the forefront of his discussions with U.S. Ambassador Michel Issa and the head of the Military Coordination Group for Lebanon (MCG4L), General Joseph Clearfield. Salam called for practical steps to translate negotiation paths into action, primarily the cessation of Israeli destruction and the expansion of experimental zones, along with setting a clear withdrawal timetable from Lebanese territories.
Earlier today, Salam met with Ambassador Issa and General Clearfield, along with an accompanying military delegation, to discuss the military aspects of the negotiation framework and the rapidly evolving field developments in the south.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister emphasized the necessity of halting Israel's destructive operations in the southern regions, underscoring that their continuation contradicts the ongoing processes and efforts aimed at stabilization and resolving field disputes.
Salam also highlighted the importance of expanding experimental zones, which would enhance the Lebanese army's deployment and presence on the ground.
He further insisted on establishing a clear and defined timeline for Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territories, transforming general agreements into measurable and trackable steps.
This meeting comes at a time when the military aspect of the negotiation framework plays a central role in communications between Beirut and Washington, especially concerning the Lebanese army's deployment, operational mechanisms in experimental zones, Israeli withdrawal, and halting operations that hinder stability in the south.
