The number of complaints shared by domestic workers from inside the Philippine embassy in Kuwait has increased on social media, where they posted photos and videos showing inhumane overcrowding of hundreds of them without regard for any form of privacy.
An informed source told "Al-Qabas" newspaper that the total number of workers currently sheltered by the Philippine embassy has reached 630, after it had dropped to below 300 in recent times due to cooperation with the Ministry of Interior to deport violators and those stranded abroad back to the Philippines.
Sources for "Al-Qabas" indicated that one of the hotels in the Hawalli area has been converted into another shelter for violating or runaway workers, where employers have recently found dozens of them in the new accommodation after efforts to locate them.
Furthermore, owners of specialized offices in recruiting domestic workers told "Al-Qabas" that the lack of serious action from the Public Authority for Manpower and other concerned authorities regarding the sheltering of absconding and residency violation workers will contribute to escalating the problem with the Philippines. They pointed out that what is happening will exacerbate issues with Manila and deepen the current crisis, emphasizing the need to grant workers their rights while also addressing the problem of absconders through legal channels.
