A source in the Spanish maritime rescue service told Reuters on Wednesday that two people, including a child, have died and 24 others have been rescued from a sinking boat that was heading to the Spanish Canary Islands in a rescue operation led by Morocco. Two Spanish NGOs focused on immigration, Walking Borders and Alarm Phone, stated that the boat was carrying 59 people. Walking Borders reported that 39 people drowned, while Alarm Phone mentioned that 35 are missing. Alarm Phone also reported that water had entered the boat, leading to the death of three passengers, urging for an immediate rescue operation, "do not abandon them!"
