100,000 Palestinians performed the first Friday prayer of Ramadan at Al-Aqsa Mosque despite the numerous restrictions imposed by the Israeli military on the movement of Palestinians. The site of Al-Aqsa Mosque, which is revered not only by Muslims but also by Jews, who refer to it as the Temple Mount, has a long history of confrontations, including the events of 2021 that contributed to a ten-day war between Israel and the Islamic resistance movement "Hamas," which governs Gaza.
Worshippers poured into the mosque in the Old City of Jerusalem throughout the day after Israel announced on Monday that it would allow women of all ages, men over the age of 55, and children under the age of twelve from the West Bank to enter the city of Jerusalem for Friday prayers during Ramadan without military-issued permits. The Jerusalem Waqf Department reported that approximately 100,000 worshipers attended the first Friday prayer of Ramadan at Al-Aqsa Mosque. Israeli and Palestinian officials pledged on Sunday to de-escalate tensions in a meeting at a resort in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt.
