A Turkish court has acquitted three individuals in the case concerning the escape of former Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn to Lebanon via Istanbul after fleeing Japan, according to a lawyer for one of the defendants on Tuesday. Mohammed Fatih Danaci, the lawyer for the aircraft operations manager, stated that the appeals court ordered a retrial in the case and returned the file to the lower court. Ghosn, once a leader in the global automotive industry, was arrested in Japan in late 2018 and accused of financial misconduct. He denied the charge, claiming that his detention was part of a conspiracy orchestrated by Nissan executives to obstruct a merger process. The ousted leader of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Motors alliance fled to Lebanon in late 2019 while awaiting trial and has been a fugitive ever since.
