Japanese stocks recorded the worst performance among Asian markets on Wednesday, with the Nikkei index dropping to its lowest levels, falling 1.3% in morning trading before recovering some of its losses to close down 0.8%. The broader Topix index lost 0.7%, closing at 2221.48 points. The yen rose about 0.6% to 139.50 against the dollar. The Nikkei index has lost more than 5% since reaching its highest levels in three decades last week.
