Osama Al-Azhari, advisor to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on religious affairs and a scholar at Al-Azhar, responded to the uproar that arose after images of him being carried on a chair on people's shoulders during his visit to Indonesia were circulated.
Al-Azhari addressed all the people of Indonesia, saying, "If you have preferred to carry me on your shoulders, then I carry you all above my head, and I will remain for my entire life honored to serve you. This honor from you is not for my person, but for Egypt and its great people and its prestigious Al-Azhar. In Egypt, we reciprocate honor with similar or greater gestures, indeed often more, God willing."
He added, in a statement published on "Facebook," that "if you have shown me this level of hospitality and honor, my appreciation, respect, and honor in serving you knows no bounds."
