The questioning session for the Governor of the Central Bank of Lebanon, Riad Salame, has begun before Judge Charbel Abu Samra, with the presence of a European judicial delegation. Salame arrived at the Palace of Justice in Beirut, which is under tight security measures enforced by the Lebanese army, extending to the military court building and the army intelligence headquarters around the National Museum to the Adliye Bridge. Similar measures are also in place for Internal Security Forces. This is the first time Salame, who will complete 30 years in office this summer, has appeared before French and German judicial officials, following the postponement of a session scheduled for yesterday due to procedural reasons when his lawyer objected to their presence. Salame denies committing any violations and claims that the allegations are part of an attempt to make him a scapegoat and hold him responsible for the financial collapse in Lebanon.
