Ukrainian Ground Forces Commander Colonel General Alexander Syrsky stated today, Monday, that Russian forces have resorted to "scorched earth" tactics in the besieged city of Bakhmut in eastern Ukraine, deliberately destroying buildings and sites through airstrikes and artillery fire. He noted that "the enemy has shifted to what is called scorched earth tactics, which were used in Syria," and that they are destroying buildings and sites with airstrikes and artillery fire. He added that Ukraine's defense of Bakhmut is ongoing.

In statements reported by the Ukrainian Military Media Center, he said, "The situation is difficult but manageable," emphasizing that "Russian forces are deploying special forces and airborne assault units to support their attack on the city after the Wagner Group's personnel experienced 'exhaustion'."
