According to the "Yonhap News Agency" citing the South Korean president's office, the "first meeting of the nuclear advisory group between South Korea and the United States will be held on July 18 in Seoul." The meeting will discuss information exchange, consultation mechanisms, collaborative planning, and implementation, with the aim of reinforcing nuclear deterrence against North Korea.
South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol stated that "the group has developed the alliance with the United States." The first meeting will be chaired by South Korean Deputy National Security Advisor Kim Tae-hyo and U.S. National Security Council Coordinator for the Indo-Pacific, Kurt Campbell.
The group was first announced during a bilateral summit in Washington in April, amid increasing calls within South Korea for acquiring nuclear weapons, a move opposed by Washington.
