Lebanon Ranks First Worldwide in Food Price Inflation

Lebanon topped the list of countries with the highest food inflation globally, reaching a staggering 352%, due to the rising cost of living combined with increased prices of essential goods and services, energy, transportation, clothing, and more, as reported by the "World of Statistics." The United Nations World Food Programme indicated that "the inflation rate of food prices is rising significantly amid a crippling budget deficit, high public debt levels, currency devaluation, and alarming rates of inflation in many countries in the region."

Five countries in the region are facing food price inflation rates exceeding 60%, with Lebanon and Syria experiencing a rise in food prices of up to 138%. In Iran, Turkey, and Egypt, the annual food price inflation has surpassed 61%, making it difficult for families to afford basic food items like bread, rice, and vegetables.

According to the "World of Statistics," the list of countries with the highest inflation is as follows: Lebanon (352%), followed by Venezuela (158%), Argentina (110%), Zimbabwe (102%), Turkey (53.92%), Pakistan (48%), Poland (24%), Czech Republic (23.5%), Germany (21.2%), and Sweden (19%).

Recently, the World Bank reported that Lebanon "recorded the highest percentage of food inflation in the global ranking at 261%."
