Roma Renews Defender Smalling's Contract

The Italian football club Roma has extended the contract of English defender Chris Smalling for two more years, as announced on Friday. The tall center-back stated to the official Roma website, "It was an easy choice to stay with Roma." He added, "I am delivering my best performances here in my career, and my family and I have felt welcomed since day one in this wonderful city. This club excels on all levels."

The 33-year-old joined Roma in 2019 on loan from Manchester United before securing a permanent deal in 2020. It is noteworthy that his last of 31 international appearances was in 2017. Smalling has played 143 matches for Roma, helping the team win the UEFA Europa Conference League in 2022 under the guidance of Portuguese coach José Mourinho, and finishing as runners-up in the most recent UEFA Europa League, behind Spanish club Sevilla.
