Nikkei Index Rises for the Eighth Consecutive Day Amid Weak Yen

The Japanese Nikkei index rose for the eighth consecutive session today, Tuesday, gaining 0.51% to close at 28,658.83 points, nearing its highest level recorded this year, in the longest winning streak since March 2022. The broader Topix index also increased by 0.69% to 2,040.89 points.

Chiba Bank led the gains on the Nikkei index, with its shares jumping 3.38%, while Resona Holdings saw its shares rise by 2.08%. Mazda Motor's shares climbed 1.87% after the yen continued to decline for the second consecutive day, trading near its lowest levels in a month.

A total of 175 stocks on the Nikkei index rose, compared to 43 that declined. However, Inpex Corporation's shares dropped by 2.13%, leading the decline among energy companies following a drop in oil prices in U.S. trading.
