Switzerland Refuses to Export Arms to Ukraine

The Swiss government has confirmed that it will not change its long-standing policy of prohibiting the transfer of Swiss-made weapons to a third country, despite increasing pressure from European nations to export arms to Ukraine. Since Russia's invasion of Ukraine over a year ago, there have been rising calls both domestically and internationally for Switzerland to abandon its policy of neutrality, which it has maintained for centuries.

In January, two parliamentary committees recommended easing the country's existing rules. Switzerland has been receiving requests from Germany, Denmark, and Spain since the onset of the war to re-export Swiss military equipment to Ukraine, but these requests have been denied.

However, Switzerland has adopted European Union sanctions and has repeatedly called for the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine.
