Crowds of Israelis took to the streets today, Thursday, protesting the government's plan to amend the judicial system, blocking roads across the country in an escalation of months-long campaigns against this move. Thousands of people marched carrying flags and banners on one of the streets in Tel Aviv, stopping traffic in the middle of the workday. A small group set fire to tires in the street in front of a seaport, briefly disrupting truck movement. Police forced protesters to leave a road in front of a conference center in central Israel. Protests have intensified since the beginning of the year when Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government proposed new legislation that would limit the power of the Supreme Court.
