The International Committee of the Red Cross reported on Saturday that "one-fifth of schools in Yemen are closed due to the ongoing conflict that has lasted for nine years, while more than two million Yemeni children are unable to receive an education." In a statement on the occasion of the International Day to Protect Education from Attacks, observed on September 9 each year, it noted that "20 percent of primary and secondary schools in Yemen are closed, leaving over two million children unable to attend school." The new academic year in Yemen began earlier this month.
