Messi explained the true reason for these celebrations in statements reported by the Spanish newspaper "AS": "My three children are still on vacation and haven't started school yet, so we watch Marvel superhero movies every night. They came up with the idea and asked me that every time I score a goal, I should celebrate like a Marvel superhero."
He added, "That's how it all started, and we continued with those celebrations. Every time we watch a new movie, we would practice the celebration for a goal."
