A medical team in Al-Qunfudah, western Saudi Arabia, successfully extracted a car key lodged in the respiratory system of a 49-year-old patient, a situation that nearly cost him his life, during a quick procedure that lasted 15 minutes using an endoscope. The Saudi Ministry of Health confirmed that medical teams were able to save the patient, who arrived at the emergency department suffering from an obstruction in his airway. After conducting a clinical examination and imaging, it was found that a car key was stuck in the trachea. The patient admitted to the doctors that while playing with the key in his mouth, he accidentally swallowed it, which resulted in partial asphyxiation and required surgical intervention through an endoscope to extract the lodged metallic object. The patient, who was found to have heart issues, is currently under observation until his health stabilizes before being discharged to complete his recovery at home.
