Title: Mawlawi: No Political Cover for Drug Traffickers

The Minister of Interior and Municipalities in the caretaker government, Bassam Mawlawi, emphasized that "Lebanese authorities are taking proactive steps to prevent the smuggling of Captagon from Syria to Lebanon." In an interview with Al-Hadath channel, he detailed Lebanon's drug combat plan: "In light of Syria's commitment to combat Captagon, we are carrying out preemptive operations to prevent the establishment of factories in Lebanon, and the security agencies are making intelligence efforts to prevent the expansion of drug production in Lebanon." He stressed that "we are fighting drug smuggling at all border crossings, and we will not allow Lebanon to become a transit point for drug trafficking to neighboring countries." Mawlawi affirmed that "there is no political cover for drug traffickers, and the security forces are fulfilling their duty to prevent drugs from entering our country." He also underscored that he personally oversees the airport security apparatus.
