The data protection authority known as "Garante" stated in a press release that "OpenAI has resumed its service in Italy by improving transparency and the rights of European users," noting that "OpenAI now complies with several conditions requested by the authority to lift the ban imposed in late March."
OpenAI has enhanced transparency on its website regarding how user data is processed, granted users certain rights to opt-out, and implemented barriers for children under 13 years old. The company had faced accusations of failing to inform its users about the information stored about them and lacking a legal basis for data protection and storage.
