Officials from a local government in China announced on Sunday that one person has died, and seven others are missing following a landslide at a highway construction site in central China.
Officials in Hubei Province posted on the region's WeChat account that authorities have found six people alive and that injuries were reported from the landslide that occurred on Saturday. They added that they are trying to prevent any further disasters in the area as operations continue.
The post also mentioned that the Ministry of Emergency Management has activated a level four response system and sent a working team to the site to guide emergency operations in dealing with the disaster.
The Minister of Emergency Management urged authorities to ascertain the cause of the landslide.
Heavy rain in parts of China over the past few weeks has led to a number of dangerous landslides resulting in fatalities. Last month, 19 people died due to a landslide at a mine in Sichuan Province, and four others lost their lives due to heavy rains that quickly caused landslides.
The Chinese government has issued warnings regarding rainfall and other natural disasters to provincial governments to remain alert and respond swiftly.
