Egypt Recovers Four Antiquities from Italy

The Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities received four antiquities from Italy today morning, following the successful recovery and proof of their illegal exit from Egypt. The pieces delivered today had been reclaimed in previous periods and handed over to the Egyptian embassy in Italy. They consist of a part of a wooden sarcophagus cover featuring longitudinal lines, containing a row of hieroglyphic inscriptions from the Late Period, which was seized in the city of Oristano in 2017. Additionally, there are two small pottery pieces representing the upper part of a statue of a woman made of pottery and a small pottery vessel with a wide mouth and a handle connecting the mouth to the body from the Greco-Roman era, which were confiscated at the port of Genoa in 2018. Furthermore, there is a piece representing a column of a genealogy, 2.5 cm in height, which was recovered from the Turin Museum and received by the Egyptian embassy on November 14, 2022. The Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, Mostafa Waziri, expressed his full appreciation for the "fruitful" cooperation with the Italian authorities in recovering these items, "which confirms the commitment of all relevant parties to preserving the cultural heritage of all the peoples of the world."
